Default Adobe CS4 installations... grrr

ok I splerged and got CS4 for my birthday present.. I installed it and it said that the serial number was expired!
I called back and they said i needed to do a clean install.. which meant illimanating all the files from the 'trial verson' or any other adobe photo programs..all had been uninstalled but they said to run the "clean Script' did that and there was no files under adobe.. also had to try to delete the old files under PDC.DB files.. there was nothing there?? Is this resolveable without taking the puter into a shop and costing me MORE money??

I work in IT and have had this issue on many occasions with Adobe products. Following this technote will resolve the issue.

“Licensing for this product has expired” when launching CS4 applications

Hope this helps.

Discount software sites generally sell original equipment manufacturer (OEM) license. OEM is software that was preloaded on a computer when sold. It is possible they sold you a product that Adobe sold to a computer manufacturer or store with an OEM license. They buy licenses from users who either no longer want or need the software, companies that go out of business and etc. Generally, OEM licenses are non-transferable from one person to another and illegal for resale.

Here is an excerpt from graphicsoft.com on the legality of OEM.
------------
OEM software is only distributed when sold with specified accompanying hardware. When these programs are copied and/or sold separately from the hardware, it is a violation of the license with the software publisher, and therefore illegal.

In addition, very few graphics software programs are licensed to OEMs for bundling. Most of the bargain sites advertising OEM software are actually selling pirated counterfeit copies.

Please note, I am not saying here that all software marketed as an OEM version is illegal. This is a graphics software site, however, and a there are a lot of counterfeit graphics applications sold under the guise of "OEM" when the software publisher has never licensed an OEM version of the title (Adobe Photoshop being one of the most frequently counterfeited software titles).
-----------
