Default gaussian blur? or other option?

I'm sort of a newbie, still learning for sure, and while I'm decent with lightroom, I don't know a lot of other PP stuff. I took this photo and I really liked it. I posted it on SYS, and someone made the comment that more bokeh would have been better. While I fully understand that adjusting for that while taking the photo is the best option, I was wondering if I could add some blur in post. I only have GIMP to work with.. and lightroom 3 beta. Any help or advice? Thanks in advance!

There's no such thing as "more" bokeh: bokeh is qualitative, not quantitative.

It would have been a bit better with a less cluttered background: the grass distracts enormously. Since you've already got the shot (and, presumably, dont want to re-shoot), I'd suggest masking the flower and using a Lens Blur over the background. Nothing too too drastic, but still.

In the future, I'd recommend a larger aperture to get a better looking background.

thank you for the advice, I will give that a shot.

I would love to re-shoot, but I was there on a little vacation, so its not that easy.
