Default just starting out and need some guidance on post production

Looking for some help with a few things. I just started out in photography so everything is new to me and I'm trying to take in as much as I can. The part I need the most help with is post production and web site formatting. Does anyone have any recommendations on who to use to build an affordable site? Also, is there an easy way to turn raw images into low res images for client proofing? What resolution should I use for online viewing? Thanks for your help.

Welcome to DPS!!

I like FastStone Image Viewer for resizing and cropping.

As for the website, jitZul gives free websites to artists (photographers included!).
They do not put any ads on your website and they take care of bringing in visitors.
They help you design it too! The one thing they require is that you keep a blog, not so bad!
You must be thinking "what's the catch", there is no catch.
I applied and got accepted and I am only fifteen!

Good luck with everything!!!

My top tip is if your going to be doing your proofing on the web remember to convert all your images to sRGB if you have your camera set to shoot in aRGB.

And always process the raw dont try to process a jpeg then try to match the RAW to it after a client chooses the one version you didnt process as a RAW lol. As its usualy a hard unforgiving task trying to match them.

And bear in mind that although you are using sRGB and you usualy get average apperance on most displays you are up against varying degrees or accuracey on each clients monitor so if you get a call saying OMG I look really yellow that may be the cause

I read an interesting article (on DPS I hope, tho cant remember) that if you are new to photography try not to get any post processing software for the first couple of months so that you learn to look for and set up good shots without having to rely on pp, I wish I got this advice when I first started because I rely too much on pp and not enough on straight out of camera.

Good luck

Not to sound harsh, but firstly, since you are just starting out in photography, you probably shouldn't have clients to worry about proofing for. Learn to get exposure, focus, color, and composition right in-camera, then worry about post processing to enhance those photos. Once you have those down, learn about the business aspects. Then you'll be ready for a website and clients.

Not trying to burst your bubble, just offering a bit of friendly guidance.

Good luck, hope to see some photos from you!

Wink

buy a 50mm lens for your camera and don't take it off for an entire month. you will learn more about composition that you can imagine.
