Default High resolution?

I am super new to photography. What does it mean when someone sais they are giving you a cd with high resolution images? Mine are at 72 PPI when I am editing them Should I put them at 300 PPI anytime I give someone a disc? Wouldnt that take up a huge amount of memory? Also what should my images be sized to after I load them into photoshop? I really enjoy taking pictures but the post production is where I am struggling. Any help greatly appreciated

They are just numbers causing a lot of confusion and a lot of web sites do not help.

Think of it this way.
For a 10"x8" print:
3000 pixels x 2400 pixels (300 pixels/inch) is high resolution

for 6x4 print
1800x1200 pixels is high resolution again at 300 pixels/inch
3000x2400 is very high resolution.

file sizes are not all that big for distribution on DVD or CD even iwhen uncompressed.

Even full size, high quality jpgs are only around 3.5MB for 10MP pics.

The only time I resize (smaller) is when uploading to the net for general viewing (not printing) and then I will usually make them 1280x1024 (max) or sometimes 1600x900 (max) pixels

If i am uploading for printing they will not be resized.
