Default Could use some help with a pesty shadow

So, I would like some to help to remove a shadow from someone face. Here is a link to the photo in Flickr. The shadow I would like fixed is on the second gentleman from the right. I have tried many techniques with little success. I don't mind someone doing it for me, I just ask that you please post what you did as i would like to learn.

I have CS3 if that makes a difference.

Thank You very much ladies and gents!

Chad

Hey, add a new layer above, fill with 50% grey (#828282) and set to overlay, then lower the opacity of your brush (push 2 while brush tool is selected for 20% opacity) paint white to remove shadows and black to add them

Google non-destructive dodge and burn if you want more details.

Hope that helps

you can use the quick mask to select the shadows on the faces, varying the softness and hardness depending on the edges and you can vary also the opacity when brushing. exit quick mask and use levels to lighten the face. when you use levels, observe the effect and when you see that it is too harsh on some parts quit levels and press Q again and brush with white with low opacity and go back to levels. the trick here is to master selecting objects in photographs.
here is a sample i did with your photo.
