Default Can someone help me with this photo....

My grandpa brought me this photo of a car he used to own. As you can see, the photo is in pretty bad shape. I don't own Photoshop, but I tried to fix it up with Gimp and I just couldn't seem to doctor it up. If someone could take a shot with this photo, I would REALLY appreciate it!

Thanks!!

If you have the original photo any chance you could scan it as full colour RGB I know its black and white but the extra data helps

Do you have any idea what kind of car that is? Knowing that may help a bit. I tried working on this a little but there are some really messed up areas. Knowing what is in those missing areas might help a great deal in making this work.

I THINK it is a 1949 Mercury with a few custom touch-ups. I am not 100% sure though. I can ask my grandpa tomorrow and get back to you for sure. In this picture, the car was in pristine shape. There was a beautiful gloss paintjob and the chrome was really shiny.

This is very similar, nonetheless http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-19...dan-s-2-le.jpg

Thank you so much! I guess that this photo had been kept in a plastic pocket of a wallet over the years and it really deteriorated.

The 1949-1951 Mercury's were all the same basic body style. The '49 and '50 had grills that fit under the hood between the fenders. The '49 had small roundish square signal lights under the headlights. The '50 had rectangular signal lights. The '51 moodel had a grill that stretched all the way across the front of the car and looked like a 2nd bumper. The signal lights were part of thes odd grill. Most models except the Montery had grooves on the center section of the grill. But the Montery had an additional grill section in front of the hood. My guess is that this car is a 1951 Mercury sport with the center section of the Montery grill. Also the headlight bezels are aftermaket.

from 49 to 51, the body looks the same but the trims and accesories are slightly different. well this will be fun. it is like restoration so you have to look for parts or manufacture them yourselves.
