Is it better to sharpen your pictures first, than crop them. Or do you crop then sharpen?

Sharpening is usually the last thing I do in post processing.

and i'm not so sure i have any scientific reason for it that way but it fits my workflow best...

There's more ways and work flows to sharpen than you can throw a brick at.

Some designers will apply capture sharpening to an image first then post process then apply process/selective sharpening and then output sharpening at the end depending on whether its for print, or screen view.

Others will apply all post processing and then apply sharpening at the end.

The quickest way is the one sharpening process and is usually done at 100% zoom for screen, where as I have read many people apply output sharpening for print at 50% zoom... why and if its wrong I dont know lol.
