Default help! new to lightroom & printing!

Hello! This is my first time posting in the message boards, though I've been lurking for quite a while.

I recently started using Lightroom and have found it to be quite intuitive. Until now. I just selected a few photos to export and received this message:

The photo “gallery-3.jpg” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?

What do you recommend I do in this situation?

On a semi-related note, I need to size my photos to 8 x 10 and am confused as to how to go about doing this without cropping the photo or distorting the picture. I typically size my photos to post online and haven't had to do a lot of printing. Would it be best to resize them in Photoshop or is it possible to do it in Lightroom? If this has been discussed in a previous thread, feel free to post a link to that thread.

Thank you SO much for your help!

I assume you would get this message if the original file had been moved. But then again I think it would have disappeared from the gallery too...?
Have you checked the file is still located where it should be on your hard drive?

Vote yes. Looks like some pictures have been moved since lightroom first cataloged them. You can also resync your folder. (from memory- in library right click on the folder and select sync).

Unless your sensor is the same aspect ratio as an 8x10 (and it's not) you must crop the photo to get to 8x10 without an odd blank border. Easiest way if you are going to then export the cropped verion as a jpg is to use the crop tool in Develop. In the margin there is a button for aspect ratio, you can click on it and get a drop down then select the 8x10. A crop grid will appear and you can reposition the crop however it fits best.

Always move images from within lightroom, otherwise the system "breaks".

So are you saying that when I export the photos, I should remove them completely from Lightroom?

NO!
export to another folder also registered with lightroom. What 'm saying is do not move folders in explorer/finder...do it within lightroom.
