Default Trying to understand adobe raw auto setting

I am trying to learn studio lighting and I was thinking I was getting my exposure correct but when I bring it in photoshop raw and I try the auto exposure setting it makes my exposure a lot darker. Is the darker one more correct or the brighter one?

I really like the brighter one better. Most of the time the auto setting works for me especially outdoor shots, there Adobe Raw Auto seems to bump up a touch which is usually fine. But seems like my studio shots always want to make the image darker.

I read that I want to make my highlights as close to the histogram highlight edge with out blowing them out. which I do, but then Adobe Raw wants to bring them back down.

I would like to know the if Camera Raw is more accurate then what I'm thinking or should I go by what I like better. My only problem is sometime my color vision causes me to be way off and I think Adobe would be better off making the desision.

it is a computer program adjustment...it doesn't know what you want. It sees bright and tries to recover highlights...it sees dark and tries to recover shadow detail. Every thing is fine. just don't use auto...or try auto and if it looks good then Bob's your uncle and if not readjust.
