Default Beginner using PSE 8

I imported my pic to elements 8. I have read that it is good to save images as .psd file format before you edit. I have the pse 8 missing manual, I guess I just need to know step by step how to do this. What are the best steps. I have tried a few things, I am happy with edited images(only using Quick Fix now not ready for full edit). When I went back to organizer there were alot of pics some said couln't find and was searching. I am new to elements. If anyone could help I would appreciate it.

Actually, you save the images in the .psd file format after you've done your edits. The .psd file format allows you to keep the adjustment layers and edits made so you can return to them later and readjust if necessary, even after you've saved and closed the program.

After you've done your adjustments and edits, you just go up to File and choose Save As. In the box that pops up you go down to the drop down box under the file name box and choose .psd.

Only if you think you'll be coming back to that photo for future edits. PSD files can be pretty big and will take up more space on your hard drive than JPEGs.

Yes, or just saw the image as a JPEG.

Are you shooting in JPEG or RAW?

Do you know that JPEG is a lossy file format and will lose quality/degrade the more you open the file and then save the file?

If you're shooting in JPEG it's a good idea to make copies of the original image file and only do your edits on the copies. Never edit the original JPEG file...or convert the JPEG to TIFF. TIFF is a lossless file format.

Photo File Formats

Why is JPEG considered a "lossy" graphics format?
