Default Lightroom or Aperture ?

Hi all,

I have just bought my first MAC, a Macbook Pro 17" - and loving it :-)
Now i have to choose what software to install for my photo editing.

What would be the best choise, Lightroom 3 og Aperture 3 ?

Is there something else, i should be looking at ?

Both are great programs, so it probably will come down to which you are most comfortable working with.

Both offer trial versions. I suggest trying both and see which you personally like best.

I personally like Aperture 3... The full screen edit is what does it for me. I used Lightroom 2 when I had a windows box.

Both are not cheap, so try the 30 day free trial to see which you will like. I myself love lightroom.

Hi,

I work for an Apple Premium Reseller so have had a good look at both Lightroom 2 and Aperture 3 (not tried LR3 yet). Aperture 3 runs very slow on a brand new 17" MacBook Pro and even our quad core Mac Pro in store. I would seriously hold out for a revision / update in the near future.

I have an iMac G5 (very old now!) running Lightroom 2 and took home the MacBook Pro last night to have a good go on Aperture. I am far more productive on my old machine than the new Aperture.

Just thought I'd put in my 2 cents!

Wait for an update.

Sorry to be an Apple geek but it's a Mac not MAC. MAC make cosmetic products.

I just sent in an order to upgrade to Aperture 3.............a friend of mine, Scott Bourne, is a beta tester and a certified Aperture instructor who teaches workshops across the country and at MacWorld. In his words, " Aperture 3 is a beast!"

Sorry Rexyspride - i will never make that mistake again

I have now been fooling around with LR3 and Aperture 3 for a few days now and found that:

Aperture 3 doesnt support the RAW files from my E-620
After doing some retoutching to a .nef file (about 2MB) and hitting the Z botton to zoom to 100% - LR3 i way faster to regenerate the picture that A3.

So i guess that my choice will be LR3 - but i still have a few days to test before the trials expires, so i just keep on testing....

Notice the first one says to switch from LR2, and doesn't mention LR3 as it's still in Beta.
