Default Light leak effect with Gimp

I was wondering if someone knows what this effect is called and how it can be reproduced with GIMP.

You can see an example of the effect here.

To me, it looks like a light leak kind of effect.. You know the red hue on film if light makes it's way into the camera's body....

Thanks!

Ok, I started playing around with GIMP and this is what I came up with:

Vintage

Not too bad, I did it by mixing in blurs of yellow and red streaks in diff layers.

If anyone has a tutorial, im still interested in seeing it.

My first attempts would probably to duplicate the image and desaturate it and apply a layer mask with a gradient so it fades from desaturated to the original image and then on the original layer play with the hue and saturation slider will I got that kinda red/yellow look and then see where that got me and what improvements I needed. I could even duplicate original layer set it to overlay to give the red/yellow colour more pop and play with the opacity.

Orrrrr... set the red/yellow effect up as a duo tone so two images for this part one for highlights (yellow) one for shadows (Red) create a layer above each image layer and fill with red and one with yellow and merge down onto the images next to each image for red and yellow create a layer mask and choose grey scale of image but invert the one for the light areas set both layers to overlay mode. then fade into the desaturated layer using a gradient layer mask.... just a bunch of ideas of the top of my head

Would be interesting to see what your final method is

You are right, I can try setting the highlight and shadow to yellow and red! Why didn't I think of that??? Thanks!!!

Here's another one I finished a minute ago. Took me like 2 or 3 hours to make since I was trial and error.

Untitled

I think I'll write a tut on it. We need more GIMP tutes on here.
