Default twice as nice

Not pros here but we are reading digital photo books by Scott Kelby...and he says natural light is all well and good, but use a window that does not have direct light. Some kind of diffuser in the window would have evened things out (cheap sheet, white plastic shower curtain, sheers). I feel for ya on the skin tone thing...our twins were one cherry and one ivory as newborns too! Was the only way we could tell them apart (the bracelets stayed on for a loooong time). I think the only way to fix that is go in and mask them after or you'll get an angel/devil thing going on. Which may be very telling in the future, who knows

For me there are 2 distracting elements - one is that there are only 3 feet shown and the brightness of the butterfly. Overall I like the position/composition of their heads and arms, you just need to make sure you can see some part of all of the legs/feet. I had twins myself so I know how tricky photographing them is (one was a lot bigger than the other!). Have you tried making this just a head shot, that may work well here too.
