Default Little boy at the beach... against the sun

Hi there,

a little while ago I read here on DPS an article about technically maybe incorrect- but still very effective- pictures shot against the sun... it seems to be a new trend at the
moment...:-)))

So here is my try: shot against the sun at about 5 pm, no post editing, wide angle lens f-stop: 5.6 ISO: 200, 1/200 Focal length: 10 mm

My question is now: does this work? composition, "flare" ( I think that's what you call it?) exposure (yes, I know, it is a little overexposed) and overall impression.... Every comment is welcome, thanks so much for your imput

Sabina

I personally love taking pictures of my children at the beach. I really like this shot and the angle. I'm not a pro so I don't have much. I like the over exposed look of hte picture, to me, that's what makes it pretty.

I really like it, the tilt of the horizon works well in this image to help create a playful mood. I like the exposure as well. I would take a moment to try and clone that flare spot on his shirt out. I would also try adding a touch more contrast to the image.

It's a very nice picture; however, it would've been really cool if you had maintain some more detail from the sky (underexpose). It is just an opinion.

I believe you hit this picture in the right spot. The kid is well detailed and the sky works with the amount of sun

I think what you are trying to achieve is "Cross-lighting" or "Wrap-around" lighting-where the subject is backlit by the sun,and sidelit at 45 degrees by flash. Your subject, anyway is too small in the picture, and the angle of the horizon, with a blown out sky spoils it. ken

I too like the tilt and the overxposed look. The one thing I am not fond of tho, is the space to the one side of him. Just too much dead space fo rme.

Thank you Windrider and Ken...

Ken, I wasn't really sure what I wanted to achieve, but I will try to use the flash at a 45 degree angle... Maybe that will help me to maintain more detail in the picture...:-) Thanks for your imput guys..:-)
