My only problem was the shadows on the eyes. Otherwise, that is a great idea and it gets your point across!

LOVE the overall treatment of the final card design. I actually think the edits I made might be too sunny and bright for the overall this antiqued effect anyhow (after revisiting my edit, I also think I went a bit overboard lightening her face).

I really much prefer the second pose as well (the one in the final card design). Much happier, more playful pose and the tighter crop puts her more front and center. Also, the head room above her that wasn't in the first shot is perfect for the layout of the card's lettering.

I like the antique treatment but wonder if a bit of sepia might work, too. Might be fun to try both.

My last comment is about as nit picky as it gets, but I'll mention it anyway....despite the water, I don't feel like the background screams San Diego. The skyline is sorta non-descript and the pine trees make me think Northern California. I can't help but think that I should be seeing palm trees instead of pine trees. Of course, your friends and family won't analyze the photograph like we all have - they will see a clever idea, cute picture, and really good execution!

Thanks Irishmuth,

I thought the same thing about the pine tree, but there aren't many beaches where you can see the San Diego skyline. We go to this beach a lot and there is the famous Hotel Del in the background although it's difficult to see. Maybe I'll clone out the pine tree, just so it doesn't confuse people. Thanks again for your nice comments!!

Great idea for a card and love the vintage style. If you do re-shoot, you might want to take a reflector also. It will help fill in those shadows camera left. I think you took these at a good time of day but to me, the overall photo feels dark so the vintage application makes it feel even darker.

I am not wild about her pose in the first one...her arm seems really awkward and her fingers look cut off. That is what I noticed first, and then the shadows on the face. I think the second card is great, the picture and the whole card together.

Thanks everyone, I am fairly happy with what I have so far, but I may do one more shoot next week....I just got a D300 and I'm anxious to see what I can get out of it as opposed to the D50, big difference in camera!! Glad you all like the card concept.

Default card frame

I might be the only one who thinks the frame is too busy and takes focus off the subject, but that's okay What about a handwriting font directly on the photo so it looks like someone wrote on a postcard? I really love the shots!
