Default Shot a teen last week...

She's still alive

My father has been pushing me to try portrait photography and invited some family friends round to practice on.

I thought this shot was probably the best of the bunch, helped by the fact the young lady is beautiful.

I applied a Lightroom preset called brownsoft and cropped as tight as I dare.
Is the crop too much? Does the soft-focus effect work? Will I be able to get her number?

I personally think the crop is a bit too close, especially with the soft focus. My eye is drawn to her teeth before anything else in the shot, I think she focus should be drawn to the eye first. I Love the tones used, very pretty skin tones. Maybe a portrait crop rather than a landscape. These are just the opinions of a newbie though. ;-)

Default the hair gets in your eyes

BRUSH HER HAIR...love the photo but you gotta get the hair out of their eyes before you start...please please Just a pet peeve of mine, don't know if others find it as distracting. We do some headshot retouching and I swear some parents don't even brush hair before they start snapping. Anyway once you get them moving around it's hard but it's even harder to clone it all out after if you need to.

lovely tones, lovely colors, and lovely eyes, too bad the eyes are covered by the hair. A larger crop showing the lower part of her chin is better so the jaw line of her facial expression can be seen.

I don't mind the hair in her eyes! I think it helps to convey her personality....but I think it is a bit close - I agree with wal she needs her chin

Many thanks for your opinions guys

I'm inclined to agree regarding the fact the young lady needs her chin, I'll keep this in mind for future sessions.

The lady had just had her hair done before arriving so I felt it best not to change her 'carefree' look. Saying that, I might tweak a few stray strands to clean the image a little.

Thanks again.
