Default Jeremiah

This wasn't a planned photo I just ran into Jeremiah on the wharf and took what I could get. He's spent most of his life on boats and I wanted the "seadog" to come through. I know the cannery wall adds nothing and I cropped as tight as I could, too tight? Is the red line distracting or are the eyes powerful enough to keep attention? Is the angle proper to emphasize his stature?
Anything anyone can add to make this better will be appreciated

This is a very nice photograph and the crop looks good. I don't find the red line distracting at all. I can see this having some neat processing done to make for more of a grungy photo that I think would fit well with the "seadog".

Thank you for your reply it is appreciated.
What sort of PP would you suggest I apply?
I should have included Exif with this submission, I see your edit to include it, what program did you use to extract it?

Not a problem...the exif was obtained from your flickr page. It is found under the "More properties" link on the photo page.

Something along the lines of this Photoshop Frenzy - Made for faster learning! » Blog Archive » Dramatic Gritty Effect, but maybe not so strong.

I don't find the background distracting, I think a nice high contrast black and white conversion would look sweet.

Nice portrait thanks for sharing.

I agree about the B&W conversion. That would accentuate the "sea dog" look and the red in the background would be a moot point.

This would look great in black and white.

For what its worth I really like it pretty much the way it is although since you mentioned it the red line maybe a bit distracting. I can see how some of the other suggestions would work out well too but I like this in colour as you have presented it. I think the crop works.

I think this is a great portrait, but I want to see more of the eyes! That would really capture this man so much more.

Here check out this video tutorial on DPS:

I think it's great. The background looks fine to me.

This image offers a lot of different ways to go as far as post work, but I like it the way it is.
