Canon 40D
F/5
53mm
1/60 sec
ISO 500

This is a shot of mom and baby. Original was in color and subsequently converted to Sepia. Would like to know if there was anything that can be changed to improve the pose and any post-processing hints to improve the mood of the picture.

Thanks!

It's a nice shot. I feel like the focus IS on her eye where it should be, but I can't see it because her eyes are so dark with the pinlight. It would have been great to have a little more light in her eyes - but lightening them just a bit in Photoshop might help. I would also like to see the original in color - certain parts of the shot, in particular the moms lips, have gone very grey in the conversion. With that said, the colors are lovely and soft, the exposure and focus in perfect for this, and baby is adorable. It is a wonderful portrait!

This is a great portrait! The only thing I would say to improve the pose is try moving the mom's head a bit more so you can see the other eye a little. Maybe do a cheek to cheek pose. Although I do like that she's nuzzling the baby with her nose. I agree with Kathryn that you should lighten the eye in photoshop. I love the lighting, it turned out great.

Hello chowc, my comment on the pose? I think that if the mom were looking at the baby, or if her eyes was closed as well it would make an even more intimate picture...
Mom-baby pics like these are centered on the word "intimacy", photomegan gave some nice ideas for other poses
The post processing is fine, in fact it gives a light, heavenly feel to it, perfect for the mood.
Hope its taken constructively,
Deck

Thanks everyone for the great feedback! Always looking to take my pictures to the next level and I'll definitely be trying out some of these suggestions.
