This was the protest that we happen to run into today during our family outing to Tokyo. This was in the Shibuya district of Tokyo. This is where a lot of predominate people live and work.
Here are some of the photos I took as the march against a rise in consumption tax paraded in the streets. ![]() The PM that they're upset with has only been in power for less than two years. ![]() ![]() Consumption tax here in Japan is 20%, and with an ever aging population this tax increase will mean rough times ahead for the elderly here. ![]() The marchers were very friendly, and waved to us as they passed. I just hope these hard working people coming together will have an impact on how the Japanese Parliament votes, and sends a clear message to PM Noda. Enjoy these photos!

Thank you! To answer your question I think that it has a lot to do with us Americans, and other foreigners living here. A rise in consumption tax effects us too, and I think they want us aware and informed of what is happening in Parliament. Most of the other protests that I have witnessed have mostly been in Japanese, unless they're protesting the military bases here. I just hope that this doesn't happen. The exchange rate now makes it hard enough as it is; more than 20% in consumption tax is asking for trouble down the line.
