I took these shots a few days ago. I first began shooting the reflection of the silver and purple balls but then she popped right in and began handling them so I just kept snapping. I like em. What do you think?

I think it was a great idea to seize the opportunity.

Just a quick though on the third one - it might have been good to include a bit more of the hands (moving the frame down or pulling back slightly) and also to get your daughter to lean over the bauble a bit more so that there is more of her reflection at the top.

Overall though, good work.

sgrbear724,

Good to see more from you; still reluctant to try Critique? Nothing scary there, just new viewpoints. These are good shots in the way you've framed your daughter. The lighting on her face did not give her eyes a chance to be a great part of them. Focus is in front of or behind her face, and on the left thumb in the closeup of the hands.

Were you in Auto-focus; if Manual, where do you focus on?

Thanks for the input!

Jiminy~ I know. I am a baby-still scared of the critique column. Afraid I'll get my feelings hurt. I am such a baby. ;-) I will get there one of these days!

I had it is manual focus. The first two I focused on the balls and fur. The third I focused on the reflection in the ball and it seems doing so made the hands more blurry than I would have liked.

Wulf~I thought the same thing about the third one after I saw it. I liked the concept but the hands being cut off wasn't good and I was diappointed that the hands weren't as sharp as I would have liked.

sgrbear724,

Here to help. Fur and reflective objects are both tough to focus on. Placing something else (like a brick) out of frame the same distance from you, focussing on it and then moving camera to glass and fur, will overcome that.

By the way . . . this is Critique! They just retitled it "Photographing People" to lure unsuspecting innocents in. Really, that's exactly what I'd say to you in Critique, too.

But we aren't pushy, and you can get good views all around here.

great job. i love the way you've captured her face in the second shot. It really defines her lips too.

I think they are lovely & gentle processing that doesn't detract from the child like quality to your photos.

I don't know if I would describe the subject specific sections as for "luring innocents in"

However, it does mean you can post more than one picture without the moderators having to remind you of the "one shot" rule in place in the critique section.

It's good to know you are only supposed to post one photo at a time in Critique. I'll remember that...when I post there! ;-)

Thanks for all the input. And I would never mind being critiqued by you Jiminy-you are a gentle one. :-)
