well portrait can refer to orientation too . . . :P

IMO its more of a journalistic portrait, than an intimate 'classic' portrait - but the lack of background (its just a red wall) gives it intimacy anyway.... nice shot, and yes it is a portrait

Definitely a portrait, an environmental portrait. A great shot - the hat makes it. Draws your attention straight to the girl.

very nice shot, its a good portrait. I would also play around with it a bit, maybe add some texture to the dead space. Good exposure and composition though.

Does the eye go straight to the face? Yes it does, yes it's a portrait. Just my rule of thumb, er, face.

Also, go easy on the wall, it might just be 'big-boned'

I think it's a portrait. I love the wall though. Can't lie, when I first glanced at the title I thought it said "fat girl and red wall."
