Default Question Cd of proofs

I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right forum, but I'm wondering when i'm selling the cd of edited images to the customer this is a proof of images and should they say proof on them or have my name on them somewhere. Cause eventhough i've sold them a cd of the images to keep for memory sake I still want them to come to me to order these pictures not print them somewhere themselves. Is this correct? Cause I was going to offer either images printed into a book or put on a cd, but with the cd again I don't want them printing them off. What the best way to do this and hopefully this isn't confusing. Thank you for any information.

put a big watermark over them, and only give low resolution... like 400X600px

do Print Proofs, never leave them with a customer. Simple as that.

Would it be practical to put the pictures on the CD as PDF?

As I know that using PDF security one of the options it to prevent printing, maybe you could combine this with a water mark and selective print sizes just an idea.

after you place your watermark on them, put them in word 2007, you can save the word document as a pdf.

in the greater Cincinnati area, just about everyone provides a cd of the "originals" I am looking at doing a hard copy printout of proofs instead of a cd for them to take to there HP and print them back out.

I'd put a X or a line through it with PROOF smack in the middle and your name in a corner. or maybe just use a really big font for "PHOTO BY " all over the image. or you can use a low res (like 300 "px")

Here's another dumb question how do I make it a lower res? Well what I had thought of was doing proof in huge letters across it with my initials in the corner and some I did actually write photography by then my name and placed it to where if they tried to crop the photo they'd just ruin the entire photo. But I actually am really thinking of printing the proofs out now with the same thing on it, but like you said hard copies.

do you have photoshop..?

image > resize > image size

just punch in the dimension you want, select "bi-cubic sharper" so it knows which re-sizing algorithym to use.. and hit OK...

done
(basically)

a free download called GIMP can do it too

When any of our customers want a Hi-Rez disk we usually only offer it after they buy a certain $$ amount of enlargements / images. If they meet that requirement, we then charge them a fairly hefty amount for the disk. (say $350 - $400 dollars) Once you give a customer the disk, you can pretty much kiss any further orders goodbye. As far as proofing, we still have them printed with our copyright across them, or let them be viewed and password protected on our website. Hope this helps
