Lightbulb Just Photographed my first wedding

Whew! I just did my first wedding, what crazy things they are whether you are getting married or just taking the photos

If you are interested, I did a post of my experience here -

Abducted Light » Blog Archive » Wedding Photography – A first timers experience…

Short summary - be prepared! Over prepared! You can never be too prepared for your first wedding, and you will probably still make a rookie mistake or 10 - like my photo of the best man who has a water fountain seemingly sprouting out of his head.....

Anyway, have a read and would love any comments.

Drewe, thanks for sharing. I have never shot a wedding, and don't intend to do it as a business, but I am sure, somewhere down the line, I may be asked for a friend. Your blog post was great and very informative for what to look for! Loved the pics. They looked awesome. I would have never known you hadn't shot a wedding before.

Hi Drew,
like you I did my first proper wedding shot in July and must have spent as much time preparing for it as I did the actual shot. I ended up with 900 images and 5 weeks worth of editing. The couple got 450 images on DVD and a small book of my favs as a gift. I was all about a learning curve for me so as they were close family friends I did it for nothing. I did enjoy the experience and learnt lots from it too so all in all worth every effort on my part. Gonna go read your link now
David.

Thanks for the comments!

Also, it's now Thursday (almost a week later), and I am still going on the edit - I guess if I were full time I would have done it in 1 or 2 goes, but my estimate of an hour shooting to an hour editing was way out - more like 2-3, depending on your experience! Good to know if you are ever charging for it....

Great, well written post. Also looks like you got plenty of keeps, despite it being your first.
Getting your feet wet is always the hardest part so congrats.

Good luck with the editing.

Thank you!

Well. in summary - it was a lot of work - the day wasn't so bad (what photographer doesn't like toting his/her camera around and shooting everything and everyone, with full permission and people even doing what you ask????) - but there is a lot of work in the post processing! Crazy!

Definitely go for 2 hours process for 1 hour shooting - then you have to have the 'sales' meeting afterwards for the wedding album, it's a long process... But some of the images are well worth it!
