Default How to pose a model?

Hi
I'm a new photographer and I'm mainly shooting landscapes
Recently, I'm doing a studio model photography with my photography club. What I found out is it's hard to pose the model... What I'm thinking is let them act naturally but it won't work...
Do you have some tips to share how to pose people?
Cheers

I've found that shooting with models can be very difficult, especially when there's a difference in Gender. We've become so brainwashed that any kind of physical contact and descriptive use of anatomy is considered sexual.

Feel free to use technical terms to explain what you want, and, failing that, ask if you can try posing the model yourself. Keep in mind, though, the pose you have in mind may not be possible or naturally tenable.

You'll get better over time: its just a matter of starting.

Having an idea of what poses you want to use in advance is helpful, this way you guide them into the poses you want. There's a sticky at the top of this forum with poses for models that could be a starting point for you.

I would to not be afraid of showing someone what you are seeing in your head. Even if the pose is generally not one that your own gender would do, giving the model a rough estimate of the pose to look at will give them something to work off of.

I'm pretty bad at describing what I want verbally, so describing it verbally & visually works better, even if I feel silly at times describing what I want.

I agree with Sketching....I generally not only tell them what pose i'm wanting but i'll show them if necessary...good thing is that it makes the model more comfortable that way...especially if you're a man and the model is a woman. She'll get past the brainwashed idea that there is any sexual intent when you demonstrate the poses.
