Hey a newbie, just wanted to ask you guys the basic things regarding how to take a picture of your own, what are the things that you keep in mind and how to make it more interesting. Iam not talking about potraits, pictures that you take which are just for fun for facebook.. i'd really appreciate if you post some on this thread. Basically i like cool and interesting ideas when it comes to take my own pictures by myself was wondering if you guys could help and i would also like to know some posing techniques..
Thanks. |

Use the timer on your camera and please don't take pictures of yourself in the mirror or with your camera at arms length. They are very cliché and amateur. If you look up 365 self portrait projects on Flickr or other online galleries you will be presented with more ideas then you could possible realistically attempt.

My question is, how do you get the focus correct? I've been toying with self-portraits (see my avatar) and have to either focus on something sitting in for me or use a larger depth of field to keep everything in focus. I would like to focus on eyes and fade out the background.
Thoughts?

Wireless remotes are available extremely inexpensively on eBay. There are two basic variations. First: the infrared transmitter for cameras with built in IR receivers (such as the Canon 350D, and other Canon xxxD model cameras.
Secondly: for cameras without built-in IR receivers such as the Canon 40D and other canon xxD model bodies. (I don't know if the Oly cameras have a built-in IR receiver). The radio remote which is a two part affair. The receiver portion plugs into the camera's remote socket (I assume that Olympus cameras have an ability to use a wired remote) and there is a transmitter which is small enough to be hidden in almost any size hand... The wireless remotes not only allow self-portraits but, they work well for cameras on tripods shooting at slower shutter speeds. The eBay wireless remotes are pretty inexpensive and quite reliable. I have been using an eBay wireless remote for years with no problems. If I remember correctly, this remote cost me about twelve dollars plus a few bucks postage from Hong Kong. Just use auto-focus and the camera should take care of itself. Last edited by rpcrowe; 09-10-2009 at 11:37 PM. |

I just bought a wireless remote from ebay for $3.99 and that includes shipping! It's coming from a store in China and will take a few weeks to get here, but they had a 99.8% satisfaction rate and I read that the remote works great with my Olympus E520.
