Default couple with their dogs, pose ideas?

A friend is doing her wedding favors with a picture of her, her soon to be husband and their three rescue dogs. Each guest at the wedding is going to have a small amount donated to the SPCA in the guests name. Her idea is to have a picture of them on the card with all the info about the SPCA along with their story of their dogs.

any ideas for poses? Thanks in advance.

How well behaved are the dogs? If it is hard to get them to sit still, you might be better to stand back and take lots of shots as they play with the dogs rather than trying to set up a formal portrait.

I know how dumb this sounds but I didnt think of that! Fantasic idea! They are crazy dogs! and they are going to be in a yard they are not use to.

Just got a call from her, she wants to have it done at noon and they will be wearing jeans and white shirts... outside! This is my first shooting people... outside of my own kids. can we say nerve racking!

I would recommend you tell them what a terrible idea it is to shoot in jeans and white shirts outside at noon. Especially if you are not able to find any shade for them all to be in.

well I am glad that she has faith in you to block out the sun... LMAO some people just don't know anything about photography. Well I hope your faith is good cause you should start praying for an overcast day.

Default Definitely use fill flash

I dislike shooting at mid-day but, when I must; I will invariably use fill flash. I use a hotshoe flash (mine is the Canon 550EX) straight-on without modifier. Built-in flash is just about useless. I dial in the flash exposure minus one or two stops below the ambient light, Besides reducing the dark shadows, the flash will place catch-lights in the dog's eyes making them more animated looking.

Often, when dogs are a bit excitable (unruly?) having the owner kneel next to the dog will result in the dog being less rambunctious.

Whenever shoot dogs, I always make sure that I am equipped with a squeaker to attract their attention and some treats to win their friendship. Squeakers that are designed to fit in stuffed animals are available at most craft stores. I will hold one of the small plastic squeakers between my teeth, That way, when I have the camera raised and bite down on the squeeker; the dog will usually look directly at the camera. Use of treats should be self explanatory.

Great ideas!! Thank you!

I visited the site and there is an abundance of shade so I am at ease with that.

Squeeker toy is a must!
