Default Better pose for family?

This is from a recent shoot I had. My question concerns the posing. Do they look too cramped? Would there have been a better way to place them?

Default better pose?

Honestly, I'm not a fan of everybody in a red t-shirt and jeans, I'm ok for coordinating, but not matching (yes, there's a difference). Maybe everybody in blues/browns or everybody in earth tones (greens/browns/khaki). If they insist on matching, maybe they can wear the same color, just everybody in a different style (one that flatters their body shape).

As far as the pose is concerned, the first thing I saw was the oldest girl's arm when I looked at the picture, she doesn't look comfortable and appears to be very posed.

I would suggest a tighter crop or the family a *bit* more spread out. They are family, they need to show relationship, so they can't be too far apart.

I see a lot of negative space, but you want the attention on the family.

That's just my un-professional opinion. Hope it helps!

I agree. I don't like the girl hanging on to the fence. Her legs and arms look unatural. And I agree with the negative space.

I agree.

If you want the girls hanging off the fence get them over the other side and climbing up and hanging over it cuddling a parent each perhaps?

Agree on the non matching thing...*shudder*

Choose a background with trees, a brook, something like that if you can. We had family photos done outside a few years ago, and the photographer advised us all to dress similarly as you have said, and he suggested we all wear white blouses and khaki or beige pants sounds odd I know it was me and two of my daughters. But he was right the pictures were lovely. They looked very peaceful and serene.

Default I also noticed the older girls pose

The older girls pose looks unnatural and uncomfortable.

Additionally, all three females have a stocky build. Neither the clothing nor the poses flatter them.

Another thing that bothers me (besides the glaring red T-shirts) is that, although the group has been crammed together, no person is touching another family member. They almost look like four strangers who have been uncomfortably caught in a tight situation.

Do a google search using "family group poses" as your parameters.
