Talking More Maternity Photos

Just a couple more maternity shots . . .

Another from the 33 week shoot:

And one from 36 weeks:

As of this posting, she is just over 37 weeks (full term)! Full lighting details, EXIF info, and bigger versions available on flickr (just click the pictures).

UPDATED 11/26:

Since this thread has been revived, I thought I would post a tiny little update:

Cutest. Baby. Ever.

These are nice. I like the playfulness of the second one. Playing on her strength. She looks beautiful. Something about the pose in the first one makes me a bit uncomfortable. I am in no way an expert so you can feel free to ignore me. I am sure you will cherish them for a lifetime regardless of my opinion! I don't know if it's the height thing (you shorter then her) or your hand placement which I understand is to accentuate her belly but it is either too low or something. Like I said I am not an expert and I can not quite put my finger on it but something feels a touch awkward for me. All in all the lighting is lovely. Almost time! Can not wait to see those baby pics soon!

You know, I told my wife the exact same thing about the first shot, and she told me I'm nuts. Glad to hear I'm not the only one . . . We had a few with my hand higher up, but the expressions weren't nearly as good and the bump didn't show very well. Ah, well.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

Personally, I think both of these are fantastic.

1) Shows the man. Yes people, it does take two! That's the first thing that entered my mind when I first looked at it. Now for the mushy stuff. It shows a loving & caring partner that is taking part in this adventure we call pregnancy. Her face says, "Thank you for this lovely gift." Well, right up to the point of the actual birth when she want's to rip your face off.

2) "I am woman, hear me roar!" Shows personality. Something lacking in most pregnancy shots. This, to be quite honest, is exactly what I was expecting from your better half. Maybe because I've seen so many other shots of her & she always seems to ooze personality.

Fantastic! The time is near, isn't it? Good luck with that birthing thing.

Oh very nicely done. Love the 2nd picture. With the 1st pic, I do agree that its nice to bring in the man too into the maternity shot, but I its little awkward too. Its very nicely done and photographed, but IMHO their expression doesn't lend to the shot. They look very romantic in that shot. Maybe an excited look on their face would have been more convincing - like "We are the proud parents-to-be shot". Just my 2 pesos!

Thanks, Dave! I told my wife that some other folks agreed with me about the 1st shot being a little off, and she stated nearly the same thing you said above. It's so much harder being behind and in front of the camera at the same time! Maybe I should do one of those self portrait projects . . . yeah right.

She laughed when I told her what you said about the second shot. To me, that kind of attitude is more "her" than many of the more formal ones we've done. I actually have lots of photos of her cutting loose, but most of them don't quite capture the belly just right. I'm glad this one did!

Baby is due VERY soon (8/11). We're so excited!

Thanks for your thoughts about this! It feels good to be getting to the point where I can forget about the lighting and work on the poses and emotion a bit more. Always something to learn . . .

I agree that the first one is a bit awkward, but alright maybe, I am about to shoot maternity pics for the first time in about two wks, I am trying in my head to come up with some ideas, so with your first shot it gave me some insight on what I want, hand placement, the closeness, how far, how close, so I thank you for those pics, I do however love them both, something precious about a pregnant women anyway right?

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Good luck with your maternity shoot, be sure to show us what you come up with. And yeah, there is definitely something innately precious about a pregnant woman.

Wow, I am baffled about what people are saying about number 1 being awkward. I don't see it. I guess I am the crazy one. Nice shots and congratulations on the new life!

Great shots. The only thing I can think of that makes the first shot a little awkward is that it looks like you are standing a little lower than her. I think it is something only a photographer would worry about though. I think it is beautiful. Wish that I had a shot like that with hubby when I was pregnant
