thank you both for your comments and feedback!

are the lighted results as flattering using this compared to bounce? (where as the on camera flash obviously comes off as flat.... will this be more desirable?)

I assume you want to know will a straight on flash with the Lightsphere is as flattering as a bare flash bounced.

The Lightsphere is just a diffuser that offers diffused and softer light than some other brands. So even using it straight on, the soft light may help to create a more pleasing picture. That's why I prefer Lightsphere to the diffuser that comes with my Nikon flash.

However it cannot create flattering portraits as related to shadows on the face that can render the subject face to appear 3D instead of 'flat'. Then, you may have to consider using the flash bounce and/or off-camera with a diffuser.

You can try a flash bounce card if you are looking for a portable bounce surface.

Therefore, I don't think I'm going to be able to bounce the flash off very much.
If there are white walls, you can bounce off of them with them to your back...

Good luck!

According to Bambi Cantrell (High Priestess of wedding photography) the latest trend is not to use flash at all-indoors or out. But if you do use flash, just use rubber bands and fix a simple white business card on the back of your flash, that you can slide up to bounce flash off, angle your flash at 45 degrees from upright-get a reading using A/Av mode; transfer this reading to manual mode, and use auto/ttl flash setting.
