Default help!!!

I took this picture today and I feel like the background is wached out. I would like to make it a deeper red without effecting the girl. I am also using layers to air brush her so I want to know how to do both of these things. Does that make sense??

If you shot in RAW, your processor has a vignette control: try that.

Probably a few ways to do it, and this may not be the best or the easiest..
In Photoshop: Image>Apply Image>Multiply 100% opacity.(or whatever percent opacity works for you) After that, use your History brush on the girl to bring her back to her original state. Be warned though, any edits you made up to that time on the girl will be wiped out, so if you try this do all your edits on the girl after you do this.

Its easier to first duplicate the layer the image is on (flatten first), then set that new layer to multiply and remove a selection of where she is.

Depends on the exact look you're after, but something simple like:

(You'll have to forgive me, I know keyboard shortcuts more than mousing)

Create a new layer (ctrl+shift+n)
make sures its top layer (ctrl+shift+])
merge visible into top layer (ctrl+alt+shift+e)
Duplicate (ctrl+j)
set layer style to "soft light" (use the mouse)
and set opacity to between 30%-50% (since the mouse is there already use it again)

I use this method so rather than flattening the image, I keep can make edits to the original bottom layers and make "pop" again in a matter of 5 keyboard shortcuts and 2 mouse clicks

I've attached the result using 50% opacity below, it's only a subtle change, but playing with the layer style and opacity can give you lots of variation

Or else if you want to get fancy and have a lot more control, select the wall using layer masks (I'd use select - colour on the blue channel) and then apply a curves adjustment. I can explain that in a bit more detail if you want...

Hope that helps

You can mask easily if you use a Curves adjustment layer for this:

Here's my take:

1.Image>adjustments>Auto levels

2.Ctrl+J

3.Image>Adjustments>Equalize

4. Blending mode "Soft light" (adjust opacity slider to suit)

5. Flatten & Save

(I made wall vertical, too)

Regards, Ken
