Default Adam Duritz - Counting Crows

I wanted to share a photo with you... As you know, I spend a lot of time shooting live music, sometimes it's big wide stage photos, sometimes it's a portrait of a person. I had the absolute pleasure of shooting Counting Crows the other night, I've been a fan forever... I usually shoot quite quickly and in RAW, but the other night I didn't want to miss a thing - I shot in jpg and ended up with a couple of hundred photos after the three song space that photographers are usually allowed. Of those photos, I have 50 or so that I'm pretty happy with which is a pretty high strike rate for me... The reason my strike rate has gone up from around 20 photos in 200 to 50 in 200 is because I'm taking more time to frame these shots, paying more attention to the numbers inside my eyepiece and what the light meter is doing. For me, photographing people is about capturing an emotion, and in this photo - I think I have done that.

This is one of the favourites from the gig the other night...

The Amazing Adam Duritz

It's a very nice shot indeed Sime!

What was the light like on stage? Was there a lot of white / yellow light? Whenever I shoot live musicians I tend to have much more saturated colours, especially reds, blues and purples.

Hi Mate, as per our MSN chat... I find that usually if a band is a little bigger, like Counting Crows, they travel with their own lights guy who is aware of the whole "we have 15 photographers trying to promote us in front of the stage for the first three songs" thing, so they generally try to give you something to work with. Not always the case!!... I've shot some really dark stuff, last weekend was an example... No front whites / brights at all!

One of the few judicious uses of flare. Great shot.

Saw them back in March in Auckland, NZ. Most awesome concert.

1. Hello Sailor (great Kiwi band)
2. Counting Crows
3. The Who

I really like Counting Crows... I really do... but I went to a concert and walked out, it was that bad... Adam Duritz was a complete tool and sounded drunk off his ass. I read in an article the day before the concert that he likes to "redo and redesign" each song each time he's on stage.

Yea, well... it just sounded like he was vomitting into the microphone. I stood up, kindly waved in his general direction, which he probably didn't see because he was too f*cked up, and walked out.
