I'm doing an indoor shoot later today and lighting might be a bit low. I don't have a flash other than the one in my DSLR, so we'll see how it turns out.
I'll probably shoot it with my 50mm f1.8. Is there a rule of thumb for how big of an aperture is too big for getting the entire body in focus (i.e., I'm guessing 1.8 is too big and only part will be in focus, right?).

DOF is affected by not only the aperture but also the distance to subject and the focal length. Check out a DOF calculator to get an idea about the DOF you will be getting based on aperture, focal lengths, focus distances.

Without a flash, it'll depend mainly on how much light you can. Generally, try to get it down to the f/4-f/5.6 range, but never sacrifice too much shutterspeed.

I did the shoot and you can see the results on my flickr page. Some of the shots were in such low light that I was at f/1.8 with 1/60, but they still worked out surprisingly well. Thanks for everyone's advice.
