Default Need a little more help on this shot....

I know it's a bit off in sharpness, but their mother (my X) will want the pic regardless. We took a drive yesterday to she if we could get a good sunset at a nearby lighthouse on Lake Michigan. So I decided to shoot a few pics of the girls. My oldest actually picked this spot by the tree out. Not sure why the other kid is a tad outta focus. Granted this is a sunset shot, but to me the color is a bit off, but maybe I am stuck being it's a late evening shot.

Original was shot in RAW.

Here's my tweak attempt, but I don't think it's quite there.(link to original)

ISO 400
70mm
F/2.8
1/1000sec
Manual Mode

It actually doesn't appear to be too bad. This is what I came up with, however, I used the Nik Color Efex Plugin for Tonal Contrast to get this so I wouldn't know how to do it step by step by hand.

What I would say is that if you were to play around with sharpening options in your photo editing program of choice you should be able to make the photo reasonably sharp. Plus, depending on what size you print it, it may not be nearly as bad as you think.

I had actually commented on this earlier but it seems to have dissappeared.

I find the image to be overly warm. The skin tone seems off.

I didn't do anything special when taking it........it was flippin cold, windy and wasn't my original intent when going out there. But their mom will want the photo regardless, just wanted to tweak it a bit. Wanted to try an get the colors cast by the sunset outta it.

@Nicole: Contrast is much better on yours and looks sharper as well. I will have to play with it some more.

Hi Jim,

What editing program do you use?

I would warm the skin tones, and sharpen using Unsharp Mask in Photoshop - if need be you can use the marquee tool to pick the specific area you want to sharpen , possibly a balance of the colours.

You shot at f/2.8 and it seems your camera focused on the tree instead of the kids.

If you had it set to maybe f/5.6 or so then it might be a bit sharper.

Use Lightroom and PS CS4. Didn't think about picken out an area and then sharpening. I will have to play some more.

Thanks
