Default Christening

I'm going to be shooting my first baby christening next weekend. It's for a friend, but I still want to take really good pics. It's going to be in a church (I'm going to meet up with my friend a few days prior to check out the lighting and such). I'm going to get a list of "must have" shots, but other than that, does anyone have suggestions for getting good shots in the church? I don't know if I can use flash or not, but really would rather go without if I can. I'm afraid the flash would scare the heck out of the poor little girl! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I did one for a friend. The officiant said I could use the flash as much as I want. He also said I could walk anywhere to get any shot. so that was good. This was right after I got my DSLR, so I wasn't very good yet. But looking back, thank goodness I could use a flash cause that was seriously the darkest church I have ever been in! LOL! I would say it depends on the church whether you would need a flash or not. Are they doing the christening during service, or just by itself. My friends was by itself. They might have different rules for photography if its during a service. Good luck! And since its your friend, don't stress it too much. Just go in there with the attitude to learn and try and do your best!

Be sure to consult with the minister about pictures. You may be able to re-stage the scene after the service in order to use extra lights, get the best shots, etc, without disturbing the service or blocking other folks' view of the event.

Fwiw,

Thanks to both of you! I'm meeting with them tomorrow morning to check the church, and you've both given me some good questions to ask. I really appreciate it!
