Default How do I get her in focus?

This is a picture of my mother and neice. ISO: 200, f/3.2 and SS: 1/800. My question is....if I've got my focal point between my mother's eyes how do I get my neice in focus. Do I use a smaller aperture? I'm doing a portfolio building engagement shoot this week-end and I know there will be some where she is shorter than he so I'd like to know what to do to get it right before then.

Thanks in advance for advice and cc.

What aperture did you use? A smaller one will give you a longer DOF and you'll be able to get them both in focus.

You use an higher f-stop f8.0 or above. Without any info provided, we cannot tell what shutter speed, fstop or ISO you used to take the photo.

Try shots at f5.6 to f8, f11 will be to much, and adjust shutter accordingly.

Also, it would be a good idea to move your subjects further away from the hedge so that the background will remain soft or out of focus, this will lift both subjects.

When shooting images like this I often shoot several variations as that horrible little screen tells you nothing about the image except you caught it. Using different aperture and shutter allows you to pick the best.

Otherwise this is a sweet image.

What camera did you use? Depth of Field (DoF), which is about how much you can get in focus, is affected by sensor size, which varies between DSLRs and point and shoot cameras.
