I don't understand why they are turning out orange tinted, as they should have a blue tint to them. Unless you are really, really underexposed. What camera are you shooting and fstop settings.

i have a canon rebel XTi. for that shoot i used the kit lense (18-55). i think i was using the lowest it would go.

with the light stands would i even need to use the bigger flash?

Try moving your light stands closer. You can also dial down your on camera flash output to eliminate the shadows. I don't think your lights are powerful enough. Might want to turn the umbrellas around and shine the light through them onto the subject. Try that.

i do have them shooting through the umbrellas. and they was just out of reach of the camera frame. also i had the lights the same height as the lil boy. should i put them up higher?

i emailed you at the address in your signature. thank you so much for your help. i am tryin to get into some classes but so far i haven't had any luck. theres not much stuff around my neck of the woods in photography. so what i have learned i taught myself.
