Default HELP!! With Father-Daughter Poses 5-10 yr olds

I have my first father-daughter country western dance this Friday at an elementary school. I need some ideas for posing!!! I know I will have to be quick, because there will be many people there, so PLEASE give me some posing ideas.

I will have 3 bales of straw and a pot with sunflowers and daisies in them and a cute colorful waterpot on the hay and a rooster sign to stick in the hay.

Please share some ideas on posing because I have a feeling I will end up doing the standard pose where the father stands behind the daugther and they both look at me and smile...that seems so boring. I'm thinking of taking two poses one standard and the other with the daughter standing behind the dad with her arms around his neck and their cheeks touching.....I welcome all of your ideas and suggestions.

Thanks a million!!!

it's a dance so have the daughter stand on the hay and the dad standing in front of her holding her like they were dancing. that's if she's kinda short.

Exclamation

Helpful hints:

1. Have them make eye contact - this brings out the relationship
2. Have them place their heads close together, have Dad lean his head in towards her.
3. Back off and get the whole picture if you have some really animated people.
4. If you have time, get some cheap cowboy hats for the girls, try the dollar store.
5. Above all, DO NOT simply have them standing there looking into the camera. Those will be the most boring shots possible.

Good Luck

Glen

P.S. Have the Dad bow and remove his hat to the girl. Makes her feel like a grown up.

The good old classic, dad holding daughter up in the air over his head. And what the others have said.

Oh man....daddy/daughter dance...then you totally have to do the one where the daughter stands on her dad's feet while they are dancing. That's a classic daddy/daughter moment!

A couple from the years of daddy/daughter pics I've done with my daughter:
  • Dad down on one knee with daughter sitting on the other knee with arm around dad's neck
  • Dad sitting with daughter behind him leaning over his shoulder with her arms around dad's neck.

And if you have to be really, really, quick ...

Find an example of the various poses suggested in this thread, and display them somewhere where the father-daughter pairs are lining up for your portraits. Encourage them to choose a pose (or two, if you have time) before they get in front of you.

I love Glen's idea here - plus it would bring out the mood of the event and reflect that kind of dance. Very fun and sweet!
