Talking Any Tips On Photographing a Family in Front of Their House?

A friend wanted me to get a family portrait of his extended family in front of his house, does anyone have any tips on how to get a good picture?

Tripod.
Late afternoon or early morning so the sun isn't blaring down, and isn't blinding them.
Tons of shots, so someone isn't blinking in one.

That's really it.

Not a really technically demanding shot, just a matter of getting everyone to sit still and smile at the same time.

definitely wait until the sun is low in the sky if possible, and watch the shadows - you don't want half the group in the sun and half in the shadow of the house, trees, etc. one tip i read for photographing large extended families is to have each family unit stand together, then you can pose each unit together into the big picture. this technique has worked really well for me - while 2 or 3 people will interact natually, big groups tend to stand around blankly until you pose them. good luck!
