Default ? re photographing adults

Do you guys just tell them how to pose or do you just talk to them and hope they end up with a natural look. That is what I normally do, but sometimes when I am developing the photo - I saw to myself, oh how I wish they were looking "this" way...

I am much better at bossing kids around...

Personally, I try to think of models as props. I mean, I know they're really people, but first and foremost, they're props.

Same here. I do my best to think of them as props and I talk to them fairly constantly. Also, as I've said before, I try to get into their personalities to get the results I want, like figuring out whether it's better to ask them to do what I want, tell them, or trick them into it. Some people respond well to directions and other people better to orders, and some people have to be cajoled!
