Ok, I tried this once before...hopefully it will work this time.
This is my first try at portrait photography. The baby is my own daughter. I used a Nikon D60 on portrait mode in natural light from a window.

wearfamily, Welcome

That's one sweet baby, and the photo is loaded with charm. It may be a wee bit underlit on left, but for a personal shot, really well-done.

.................................................. .................................................. .............................

When you want the photo to show, use this sort of code:

lh5.ggpht.com/_UZAu87WWvZI/SXqDNZG5VsI/AAAAAAAAAcY/J5hFQRX--Uc/DSC_0539_thumb%5B6%5D.jpg?imgmax=800

instead of the "wearfamily. blogspot.com" one. That longer code is on "Properties" pulldown, and is to be copy/pasted into "Insert Image" (yellow box with mountain and Sun) above your text when entering post message.

What can I do to get rid of the shadow on the left side? All I have is normal home stuff, nothing remotely professional.

same here.....

think about reflecting the window's light back from that side with a reflector......and that could be another white sheet.....or one of those car windshield things.....even a mirror.....

i forgot to welcome you to our site....i'm certain you're going to enjoy the wealth of information our members have to offer....

i moved your thread over to the techniques section which suits your thread better than critique.......it's a section for more general questions about portraiture.....rather than the specifics of critique......

enjoy!
