Oh my God! The first 2 shots are amazing.
I loved the eyes of the war veteran, could you try to see how a sepia looks?
In the second one, the framing is so good, the out of focus mamaoth trucks and the cute kids at golden spot with perfect exposure is just outstanding.

I have to agree, that first shot is really nice! I also have to agree, that you can catch nice shots at parades, this is one of my favorites...

No, actually I was using my 70-300mm on my D70.

I think that the first photo, would be AMAZING done in black and white, I would love to see a B+W version, with strong contrast, as well as sharpness.
