My daughter is also an amateur photgrapher. Usually the whole family (wife and I and 4 kids) goes to our town July 4th parade but this year only the one daughter (photographer) and I went. We sat on lawn chairs with our DSLR's, she with her Canon, me with my Nikon (we're an integrated family).
Usually the parade is not exciting from a photography standpoint because of the hard light at 11 am. But this year it was overcast...... perfect. Sometimes it seems like I can't get anything to work photographically. I'll go weeks without getting anything I'm even half proud of. Then when I least expect it things just come together. The parade was like that. The light was great and it just seemed that really interesting people kept coming by. Anyway, the 1st shot just happened out of the blue. The gentleman was looking to the other side of the street. Then just as the car was approaching us he looked our way and saw our cameras. He immediately put his hand up to salute. Sweet. The kids in the second shot were fun to watch. They were having a great time early in the parade but when the police and fire vehicles started coming by they stopped and just watched in awe. To answer a question, yes, I did increase the saturation just a little with PS just because it was the 4th and i wanted to emphasize the good old R, W, and B. As for the half dressed politician. What can I say? Local politics.... you can't make this stuff up. Nobody commented on the third shot, of the biker couple. They were part of a group of bikers. Great subjects. It was a good day of shooting.... for once. Thanks again for all of the encouragement. Makes me want to get out there and get some more! |
