I am a big girl myself, a young big girl..but still. I find I look better in my photos when I am not slouched over and have confidence. There's nothing wrong with a bigger body, and it can look good on camera. Confidence is my main thing, my pictures are worst when I am feeling my worst. Let her know she's pretty no matter what, and then you can use some of the techniques the others have mentioned.

Fantastic, thank you a lot

Im researching a lot but its harder to find 'larger' sized model photo's to get some ideas from. I think she is gorgeous anyway and we will have champers for her birthday so im hoping this helps relax her and things will flow. So excited.

Maybe give her some props to play with if she's not feeling comfortable. A flower to hold, a glass of champers, a pashmina to play with and wind around herself would probably look neat. It should make her feel at ease if she has something to do with her hands.

Although these may not be the type of poses you're planning on doing, perhaps looking at online clothing catalogues for plus sized clothing would give you some ideas, as the photographers would be working with (albeit only slightly) larger models.

Also try doing a google image search for larger celebrities like Oprah, Rosie.. umm... I don't read gossip magazines so I can't think of any others! They have photo shoots all the time for magazines, so there would be some examples of the type of photos you want to shoot, suitable for the age of your model.

I think it would be really good if you would share what you learned at the end of it, I bet it would be useful.

Hi,
Maybe a nice closeup of her eyes or a partial face shot...maybe try some shots in black and white.

I am a BBW and what helps most is to the camera being higher than the model and for the model to have her head up and chin out..this way, if she has a double chin it will not be easily scene and the pose will minmize the lower body..I hope this helps..

Default Making Large....Smaller....and Younger.

This isn't an advertisement but I bought "Portrait Professional" off the web back in the Spring because it looked interesting. Later I was at one of our Middle Schools taking staff photos and decided to have some fun. I took all the photos of the middle aged ladies on staff and ran them through the program which made them thinner and younger looking. Then I printed the results in 5 X 7 and gave them to the ladies. You should have seen them showing the photos to their co-workers. One teacher had the copy framed and gave it to her husband for their 25th wedding anniversary. He was thrilled and couldn't stop showing it to family and friends. The wrinkles and double chin were all but gone...and her teeth weren't tobacco yellow any more. It was the most fun I had had with photography in a long time, and it took about 5 minutes a photo to use.

Portrait Professional is great software. I almost feel guilty using it. The best thing is that you made all those women feel great.

I also use Gimp, which is an open source "version" of photoshop. Would anyone happen to know how to graphically make someone's stomach or thighs thinner using this software? It's very similar to photoshop, so photoshop instructions would be fine.

While I have mixed feelings about encouraging people to think they aren't good enough just as they are, I've certainly had occasions where I've wished I didn't have so many chins or whatever in photos, so in the spirit of education!

In photoshop you would use 'filter/liquify'. The pucker tool on rigid setting is what works for me, or to go the other way, the bloat tool on rigid.
