Default Photographs in the delivery room

I am going to be present for my first granddaughters birth... I have been asked to take pictures shortly after she arrives... The camera I have is a Rebel T1i with and 18-55mm EF-S kit lens, 55 to 250 mm EF-S and a 50mm prime lens... The only flash I have is the built in one.
My question is... if you were in my place what lens or lenses would you prefer to have with you? I am not opposed to buying a new lens if there are better choices out there (which I'm sure there are) but I do have some budget restrictions.... I would prefer if possible NOT to use a flash, but have been doing some research on external flashes the 430EX II specifically , should I plan on taking a flash in with me?

I apologize if this is not in the right place and for my very newbie questions.. any advice you can give me will be extremely appreciated.

You're totally in the right place. :-)

I would consider taking the 50mm, but I have no idea if you'll have enough room to use it. Unfortunately I can't really offer any more advice than the general of take a lens with a wide aperture if you don't want to use flash, and make sure you have enough room to use the focal length.

I'm sure people with more experience will chime in. :-)

I was going to vote on the 50mm also... hopefully with all the light in the room you won't need a flash. if there's a window, open the blinds and try to use natural light. best of luck to your family!

I'd bring both the kit lens and the 50mm. I like my results better with the 50, but you definitely need more room to shoot with that lens. They don't take up much room, so I'd smuggle them both in and see which one works best. Congratulations!

I'd probably use the 18-55mm with an external flash bounced up or a 50mm no flash. I am a first time dad and took the pics of the delivery. I only brought with me my 28-75mm f/2.8 which i found to be ideal in the delivery room, but switched back and forth between it and the 50mm in the recovery room over the next 2 days. The bounce flash was nice but not necessary. It all goes by so fast, i didnt even check shots i just kept firing. Have fun!
