You're totally in the right place. :-)
I would consider taking the 50mm, but I have no idea if you'll have enough room to use it. Unfortunately I can't really offer any more advice than the general of take a lens with a wide aperture if you don't want to use flash, and make sure you have enough room to use the focal length. I'm sure people with more experience will chime in. :-)

I'd bring both the kit lens and the 50mm. I like my results better with the 50, but you definitely need more room to shoot with that lens. They don't take up much room, so I'd smuggle them both in and see which one works best. Congratulations!

I'd probably use the 18-55mm with an external flash bounced up or a 50mm no flash. I am a first time dad and took the pics of the delivery. I only brought with me my 28-75mm f/2.8 which i found to be ideal in the delivery room, but switched back and forth between it and the 50mm in the recovery room over the next 2 days. The bounce flash was nice but not necessary. It all goes by so fast, i didnt even check shots i just kept firing. Have fun!
