Bring a variety of clothes if possible.

I used to think there were hard set rules in dressing your subject. But, I am not so sure anymore. I've seen incredible photos breaking all the rules.

Anyway, if you want to study a photographer who is the very best at portraits shot in natural settings - check out ljholloway photography | Custom Portrait Photographer | Kingman, Arizona 86401 | Las Vegas, Nevada photographer. Study her color palette. Lisa is a master IMO.

Unless you have a reason to do otherwise:

No strong patterns -- Patterns pull attention away from the faces of the subjects.

Neutrals or desaturated colors -- If you look at the websites recommended, you'll not see large areas of strong, saturated colors. Again, they tend to draw attention away from the subjects.

Light or dark colors near the face -- Midtones have a tendency to blend in a bit with skin tones, especially beiges or when shooting in B&W.

Any of the above can be violated if you have a well-developed artistic vision, but they're a decent place to start.

those are some wonderful photographers!

I agree... less patterns, especially in a place like the woods, is the way to go. You want to stand out, but in a good way. Stronger colors if you plan on going black and white.
