Some advice on this area?

Hey there, I'm new to photographing people, I have been mostly doing a bit of this and that, including Macro and Landscape, and was just wondering if I could get some tips on this particular subject.

I am going to my grandmothers friends house to photograph him playing the Saxophone next month and have taken note of the points on this site, but would like to hear some specific tips and recommendations about how I should go about this photo, what mood it should capture etc etc.

I use a Canon EOS 1000D by the way.

its all about the light - look for the good light, place him in the good light, look for the angle of light and the defining shadows. Don't get hung up on your camera, look first, make adjustments to pose or position - then figure out your exposure and take the shot.

If you are planning this to be in natural light, watch the time of day and location and have a reflector and assistant handy. If you are using flash you will need more than your on-camera one. As the previous reply stated,"it is all about the light" and the mood which you want to portray with the image. Also if you are not shooting RAW, watch your white balance.
