Default Nervous....

I am looking for people to model for me so I can practice my posing skills and such, and I have a few who are interested.

My question is, where do you guys find good locations? How do you go about finding places that would be attractive for portraits yet simple and elegant? I'm kind of nervous to take someone out to photograph and not have any place to take them. :P

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I find my locations the same way most photographers do. I go look for them. Its part of the job.

+1 Think in terms of your subject(s) and seek out places that would compliment their personality or style. Urban areas, old beat up and run down buildings, doorways, parks, fields/woods, old mansions (usually state maintained) public gardens, etc. Tons of places, just put your thinking cap on and start locating them in your area. Just out for a Sunday drive?...be conscious of your surroundings, and take note of potential spots to be checked out.

From my experience I don't look for location hot spots before the shoot, even though I want to. What I did normally is just meet the model(s) at a public property location like a park and walk around for some interesting spots. And I do best on choosing a big public parks if possible as it will give me more choices and shots.

^^^ this... and be aware of small details, like Vince mentions a doorway...the surrounding area might be terrible and cluttered - not at all suitable for a photograph...but when framed correctly that doorway may be magic.
