Question Lens & Religious wedding: Tips Please

I apologize if this is in the wrong thread/forum!

I am going to be photographing a friend's sister's wedding at the end of May, for free. Unfortunately, I'm not very good and this is my first wedding, but fortunately they already have an official photographer. I need some help on the equipment and also maybe a little cultural/religious help.

The equipment that I will be using are: Nikon D3000 (kit lens), SB-600 Flash, and a tripod. I want to rent (or maybe buy) a lens for the wedding. What I want to know is, which lens would you suggest I use for the wedding?

Second issue: It's a Muslim/Canadian wedding, and I am not very familiar with Islam or Arabic culture, is there anyone who can tell me anything important I should cover in the wedding (including what to avoid, etc.)?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Whhoooooaaaaa!!!

A Canadian wedding? Yea, I'd back right the hell out of that immediately.

If you show a picture of Stephen Harper, you'll likely be beheaded!!

Run, don't walk from this wedding!

At this time of year I get very suspicious! Is this a pre April Fools? Funny how they joined in 2009 and only have 2 posts!

It's the 31st, too early for any meaningful April 1st jokes.
