Default 1 Year B-day party

Holler!!

So my niece's first b-day is coming up next weekend and my sister and brother-in-law are going to be super busy so they've asked that I make sure to take a bunch of photos at the party.

Ideally I'd like to preform this task and preform it well.

Any tips? What lens(es) should I bring? I'll probably go early to capture the cake, favors, and everything in it's ready pre trashed state.

Then try to take some nice portraits of the people there as they arrive / enjoy the time.

Then I'll also need to capture the moments - present opening, cake eating or smashing, candle spitting, etc.

You can adjust the image using levels or curves to lighten up the baby. then duplicate the layer and blur the top layer using gaussian blur. really blur it. then adjust the opacity and this gives it the soft look. go to the original layer and with the clone tool, remove some of the blotches using a soft brus and 20% opacity. flatten.

What a cutie!

First off good luck, use a fast lens, preferably one where you don't need to be too close, but also not too far (people want to watch and if you are too far away, people will stand in front of you!) and bring duct tape to hold her down in place, especially if she has friends :P

If you plan to arrive early, confirm with your sister and brother in law so that they know, they may want you to come around nap times, or whatever and if they are anything like me they may not be ready!

Another heads up, every one year old bday I have been to, the child does not open the gift, nor do they blow the candle out, just giving you the heads up!

Not sure if that helped, but I hope it did!

Thanks for the reply. It was helpful.

So you're thinking a fast lens vs flash would be better?

Yeah they know I'm coming early so it should be fine

I'd go with a fast lens and bounce the flash if necessary.

Thanks Susan,

I'm thinking I'll bring the 50mm, maybe the 70-200 and a flash
