Why do you think you need artificial lighting when you're going to be shooting in natural light? IMO, natural light provides the best type of photos. Do you have any idea what the weather may be like?

The place to start is Strobist it's the end-all be-all for all things lighting.

megkunert - If it's midday, and you don't have nice open shade, she's likely to need some flash knowledge.
It's better to know how to use flash so you can choose NOT to.. but at least she'd not be limited by her lack of options in case she needs it.

The problem with this is that it's much harder to properly expose the whole scene using only natural light.

I'm sure you've seen plenty of images where the subject is well exposed, but the sky is then blown out, or the sky/environment is properly exposed, but the subject is under exposed. Judicious use of flash will allow you to have it all.

As Fuzzy indicated, if you have flash, it gives you much more flexibility, and not have to select locations where essentially you're hiding from the sun.

To the OP - do as Fuzzy suggested - go to Strobist.

Though learning how to use flash can be difficult, once you know, you have much more flexibility than otherwise relying on only natural light.
